Edward L. Gaylord
Downtown YMCA
The new Edward L. Gaylord Downtown YMCA was built in 1998 after the former facility was destroyed as a result of the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building. A state-of-the-art facility was built on land donated by the Oklahoma Publishing Company and the Gaylord family. The facility consists of two buildings, which face each other with a common green area in between. One building houses the Downtown YMCA branch with a fitness center, gymnasium, indoor pool, group exercise studio, indoor track, locker rooms and a multipurpose room used for a variety of YMCA and community programs. The other building houses the Child Development Center, a three star accredited center that cares for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. The fitness center features STRIVE strength training equipment, treadmills, bicycles, step mills, elliptical trainers, an extensive set of free weights, cardio-theater, and the FitLinxx interactive workout system. A 1200 square foot expansion to the Devon Fitness Center inside the Y was opened in January of 2005, adding new cardiovascular equipment.
