Water Fitness

What would the Y be without water? Water exercise, adult swim lessons (it’s NEVER too late) and adapted exercise for those with disabilities or in rehabilitation are some of the water-based activities you’ll find at the Y where we believe if you can do it on land, you can do some version of it in the water!

Water fitness provides all the benefits of a great cardiovascular and strength-conditioning workout while protecting your joints from excess strain. These classes are designed to help you improve joint and muscle flexibility, balance, coordination and strength.

Shallow Water Exercise

Shallow water is held primarily in the shallow end of the swimming pool. Aerobic and strength and conditioning exercises are held in an environment that cushions the joints from impact. Swimming skills are not necessary to participate.

Deep Water Exercise

Deep water exercise is held in the deep end of the pool with participants using floatation aids to assist with buoyancy. This is a fun and energetic way to work out. Components of aerobic exercise and strength and conditioning are included.

Arthritis Water Exercise

Arthritis water exercise programs are designed for people with arthritis and related conditions or with decreased mobility.
