Sailing Center
The Y’s award-winning sailing program utilizes modern equipment such as Olympic Class Lasers, advanced designed Picos and the classic Pram. Our facility is located on the only sandy beach on Lake Hefner to enhance the learning experience. Due to its easy access and consistent winds, Lake Hefner was named one of the top ten sailing lakes in the United States.
The Y offers a wide variety of adult courses for beginners to advanced sailors. Students can begin working toward their Small Boat Sailing certificate at the intermediate level. Advanced sailors may choose to participate in Race Camp or our Instructors in Training course to learn how to teach others to sail.
After successfully completing a Y sailing session, students can participate in the Open Sailing Mariner Program. Participants receive a Mariner Pass to use Y boats for the entire summer. This program allows participants the opportunity to develop and practice sailing skills at their own pace.
Our knowledgeable sailing instructors follow United States Sailing Association guidelines and our lead instructors are USSA Certified Instructor Trainers. We’re happy to give you a tour of our facility and equipment and to get you started on a lifetime of sailing enjoyment! The YMCA Sailing Center is located on the south shore of Lake Hefner, two points west of Stars and Stripes Park.
