Early Childhood and Pre-School

The YMCA operates a Child Development Center, which provides a caring, developmental program stressing quality care for your child. Age appropriate play experiences are provided in a supportive environment in which a child can develop his or her individual potential. Our center is nationally accredited by NAEYC and licensed by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

The Child Development Center accepts children from 6 weeks of age up to 5 years of age.  Full day Pre-School and Kindergarten are also offered. Staff is selected for their educational background, teaching experience, pre-school and early childhood training and sensitivity to the individual needs of the young child. Each staff member undergoes a thorough background check, and all personnel are trained in CPR, AED, First Aid, and Supplemental Oxygen.

Operating hours for the Child Development Center are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

School Age

The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City is the county's largest provider of school age childcare, providing care for more than 500 school age children each day who otherwise would be home alone after their school day ends. This program is designed for boys and girls ages 5 to 12. Care is provided before and after school. Curriculum for the program includes the following components: Arts & Humanities; Character Development; Health, Wellness & Fitness; Homework; Literacy; Science & Technology; Service-Learning; and Social Competence & Conflict Resolution. The entire experience for the children is built around activities that challenge them to accept and demonstrate the positive values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Children are given the opportunity to express their individual talents in a safe and well-supervised atmosphere and parents are free from worry about their children's care while they are at work.

Other activities may include visual and performing arts, reading, Jr. Achievement programs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

The YMCA also offers a Kids In Action (KIA) program at some locations. KIA is for children in half-day Pre-School who need care for the other half of the day. This program operates in the schools where children attend Pre-School.
