Y Achievers
The YMCA Achievers program is a national college readiness program designed to help minority teens set and pursue high educational and career goals. Through academic support, career exploration and mentoring, the Y Achievers program helps to raise our youths’ academic standards, develop a positive sense of self, build character, explore diverse college and career options, and meet and interact with professionals of color who serve as role models to inspire them to greater heights. The Adult Mentors, who are successful minority business leaders, meet with the teens to help them grow, prosper and learn more about diverse careers. The Saturday sessions are designed to provide students an opportunity to explore career interests through real-life application of skills. Career Clusters include Business and Finance, Law and Government, Health and Medical, Engineering, Education, Culinary Arts, and Cosmetology among many of the University, Vocational and Technical disciplines. Life Skills workshops concentrate on academic enrichment, college preparation, SAT/ACT preparation, college tours, personal finances, resume writing, interviewing skills and assistance with scholarships.
