The Bethany YMCA offers a unique afterschool program at Council Grove Elementary and Greenvaile Elementary school in the Western Heights School District.  Students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades are eligible for this program and must be selected by the principals at each school.

The YMCA afterschool program is a tutor-based program targeting students who need to improve their overall achievement test scores.  Students attending this afterschool program may avoid summer school if they successfully complete the afterschool series.  If your student needs assistance and attends one of these elementary schools you should contact the principal for participation.

The YMCA was made aware of a grant opportunity through the YMCA of USA that would result in our Association receiving 400 pairs of Converse basketball shoes to provide to kids in our programs.  The YMCA School Age Child Care and Y Achievers programs are offered in several schools that are located in underserved communities and a "perfect fit" for this opportunity.

Eighty pairs of shoes were distributed to Greenvale and Council Grove Elementary Schools After School Program in the Western Heights School District. With the help of teachers and our program staff, parties were planned at each participating school and every child in our program were presented with a pair of brand name athletic shoes as a reward for their acheivements.  This was a wonderful opportunity that brought together our schools, the YMCA, and corporate partners to help a great group of kids begin 2010 "on the right foot".
