The new Edward L. Gaylord Downtown YMCA was built in
1998 after the former facility was destroyed as a result
of the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building. A state-of-the-art
facility was built on land donated by the Oklahoma Publishing
Company and the Gaylord family. The facility consists
of two buildings, which face each other with a common
green area in between. One building houses the Downtown
YMCA branch with a fitness center, gymnasium, indoor
pool, aerobics studio, indoor track, locker rooms and
a multipurpose room used for a variety of YMCA and community
programs. The fitness center features STRIVE strength
training equipment, treadmills, bicycles, stair climbers,
elliptical trainers, an extensive set of free weights,
cardio-theater, and the FitLinxx interactive workout
system. A 2000 square foot expansion to the Devon
Fitness Center inside the Y was opened in January of
2005, adding new cardiovascular equipment.
