Strong Kids

At the Guthrie YMCA, one of our most important goals is to enrich the lives of kids in our community. With a vested interest in the future of our community, the YMCA helps our community’s kids fulfill their dreams for a bright and successful future.

The Strong Kids Campaign Allocations help ensure that the Guthrie YMCA can provide teen leadership development programs such as Youth and Government; offer healthy summer childcare alternatives for working families through our Summer Camp; continue to be the largest provider of swim lessons and water safety instruction and offer all these things, and much more, for everyone who wishes to participate.

The YMCA Youth and Government program’s purpose is “to enhance the development of the American democratic process by enabling young Americans to prepare for moral and political leadership by providing guidance, training, and experience in the theory and practice of determining public policy”. The Guthrie YMCA is very proud to support the students of Guthrie High School participating in this significant program.

The Guthrie YMCA plays an important role in this community with financial assistance. It is the policy of the Guthrie YMCA that no individual be denied membership or program participation due to the inability to pay. Based upon this policy:

Over 20% of our membership base consists of scholarship recipients. We average nearly 36 children a week in summer camp with almost 45% of those participants needing financial assistance. Summer camp provides a safe and secure learning environment, particularly for children that may be too old for conventional daycare, but too young to remain home alone.

Athletically, we offer youth track and field, flag football, t-ball, tennis and basketball with close to 20% of our children needing help. The Guthrie YMCA is constantly looking for opportunities in our community to promote our mission, which is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

The Strong Kids Campaign assistance provided by Donors of Logan County and surrounding areas assures that the Guthrie Y is able to make a difference in the lives of everyone who chooses to be a part of it, helping our community become a better and stronger place to live.
